Biography
My name is Amanda and I use she/her pronouns. I am a first year Ethnic Studies MA student in the Department of Race, Gender, and Ethnic Studies at Colorado State University. I earned my BA in History and Women's and Ethnic Studies from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS).
My research interests center on the application of feminist, queer, and ethnic studies within social history. In particular, I am interested post-colonial and transnational feminisms and focus my research on the institutionalization of gendered sexual violence within modern and contemporary histories.
I first started out as a history major during my associate degree and then after transferring to UCCS, I was introduced to the Women's and Ethnic Studies Department (WEST). At the time, I was already interested in social history and with the addition of the theoretical frameworks of race, gender, sexuality, class, etc., I had found the immersion of disciplines I did not know I was searching for. I became the first student at UCCS to double major in History and WEST and after attending the Ethnic Studies Symposium in Boulder, 2024, I found the Ethnic Studies MA program at CSU and applied!
During my graduate studies, I look forward to deepening my research through collaboration and community connections, presenting at conferences, publishing, and teaching for the Race, Gender, and Ethnic Studies Department.
Outside of Academic work, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our animals (one puppy and two kitties), exploring our new city of Fort Collins, getting outside, traveling, visiting family, and finding my way to the ocean in the summer.
