There are times when it’s necessary to include a link to a faculty or staff profile page from within another page’s content. Doing so helps visitors to be able to quickly and easily see more information about a given person within the department. However, in the past when you needed to link to a faculty or staff profile you needed to first navigate to their profile page and copy the URL. This isn’t so bad for one or two people, but what if you need to do it for 15 or more? It becomes incredibly tedious and time consuming.
To get around this we’ve added a new feature to the CLA People plugin that allows you to wrap nearly anyone’s name with the [cla_people_link /] shortcode and it will automatically link to their profile.
It can be as simple as this:
[cla_people_link]John Russell[/cla_people_link]
Which will automatically output a link like this: John Russell
The best part is it can be used in the same way across all sites on our WordPress Multisite system, even if profile pages are at “/people/” or “/author/” the shortcode will automatically adjust to the site it’s being used on.
There are other features, which make the shortcode much more flexible in how it can be used, that are explained in greater detail on the CLA People plugin reference page.
