Lamar Website Replacement Options

As of August 1, 2015 the Lamar server was retired from service by ACNS, including email, file storage, and websites. We've received questions from several concerned faculty within the College of Liberal Arts wondering where they can host their content now that Lamar is offline. The College of Liberal Arts is unable to provide a direct replacement for Lamar so we are suggesting the following possible solutions:

CLA Profile

Use your department/center profile page. This is the simplest option since it's already in place and ready for information to be added. Through use of a cloud storage service (such as OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive) it's even possible to add additional documents (papers, research, publications, etc) by sharing them and linking to them from within your profile biography section. If you need assistance setting up your profile page please let us know by contacting us at cla_webhelp@mail.colostate.edu.

Google Apps

Use CSU's Google Apps to build a website on Google Sites. This option will give you more flexibility with the layout and content, though it won't be quite as easy to use/setup as your profile page.

Purchase Web Hosting

Purchase a domain and third-party web hosting. This option will provide the most flexibility and possible features, though it also requires (by far) the most work up-front to set it up. Some possible options for purchasing a domain and hosting:

  1. BlueHost
  2. Media Temple
  3. GoDaddy

Please note that if you plan to use Google Sites or purchase web hosting yourself, you should consider whether you want to use a "colostate.edu" URL. Please contact us to discuss URL options in further detail.
